The polyolefin provides shrinkable protection, the fusion liner rebuilds the fiber coating at the splice, and the reinforcing rod adds mechanical strength to prevent fiber breakage at the splice point . Some designs use 304-grade stainless steel, polished to remove burrs, which enhances corrosion and moisture resistance .

Protective Features

These sleeves are designed to maintain optical transmission properties while shielding the splice from environmental factors such as temperature fluctuations and humidity . The clear tubing allows visual inspection of the splice before shrinking, ensuring proper alignment and reducing installation errors . The sealing structure ensures the splice remains stable in harsh conditions.

Installation Process

  1. Slide the heat shrink sleeve over the fiber before splicing .
  2. Perform the fusion splice on the fiber.
  3. Reposition the sleeve directly over the splice.
  4. Apply heat using a heat-shrink oven or fusion splicer heater until the sleeve fully shrinks and the fusion liner melts to encapsulate the splice . The tubing typically operates in a temperature range of -45°C to +100°C, with full recovery at around 120°C . The metal rod inside the sleeve ensures the splice is mechanically reinforced and prevents fiber breakage during and after installation.
