Fusion Splicing

Active or Temporary Connections

They are simple and reliable, allowing quick site-to-site or device-to-device connections. While light loss is higher than fusion splicing, this method is suitable for testing, temporary setups, or flexible network configurations .

Practical Considerations

  • Cleaning and Inspection: Always clean connectors and inspect fibers for damage to prevent signal loss .
  • Cable Type: Single-mode fibers are preferred for long distances, while multi-mode fibers are suitable for shorter, high-speed links .
  • Environmental Protection: Use appropriate jackets for indoor or outdoor installations to protect against physical and environmental damage .
  • Testing: After connection, test the link with optical power meters or network testers to ensure optimal performance .
