Fault Detection and Initial Response

Fault Diagnosis

After testing, the cause of the relay operation is analyzed. This may involve checking for:

  • Relay malfunctions or calibration errors
  • CT/VT failures or wiring issues
  • Environmental factors such as moisture, dust, or vibration affecting relay performance
  • Incorrect relay settings or coordination issues

Corrective Actions

Based on the diagnosis, corrective actions may include:

  • Recalibration or repair of the relay
  • Replacement of faulty components
  • Adjustment of relay settings to ensure proper selectivity and speed
  • Cleaning and maintenance of relay contacts and enclosures

Restoration and Verification

Once corrective actions are completed, the relay system is re-energized and tested to confirm proper operation. This includes:

  • Verification of trip and alarm circuits
  • Coordination checks with upstream and downstream protection devices
